LES BOURSES/LES PROGRAMMES D'ETUDES/

LES SEJOURS LINGUISTIQUES

Dear Teachers of French:

I hope you all enjoyed the convention in Liege along the Meuse this summer and that you took full advantage of the opportunity to discover and hopefully love Belgium!

First of all, I am writing to thank you for attending the convention.   Secondly, I’m interested in hearing your opinion on two different subjects:

1. The Belgian Tourist Office is interested in hearing your feedback on your experience in Belgium. So we’d love to know what you liked and did not like, what surprised you, and whether this experience made you want to explore Belgian literature, cinema and songs in the classroom.

2. As you may know, I represent CERAN, a school headquartered in Spa, which specializes in short-term intensive language immersion programs for adults and teenagers. So far, we only run programs in Europe, but we are considering launching a French language immersion program in the U.S. in the summer for kids aged 13 to 18. The full immersion program would be quite academic (with classes until about 3PM) but  would also involve sports, crafts, cultural activities, and field trips, all conducted in French. The focus is on giving kids who are highly motivated to become fluent in the language the opportunity to improve their conversational skills. It would be very similar to our current CERAN JUNIORS programs described here: http://www.ceran-us.com/junior/ceran_junior_immersion.php. What are your thoughts on that idea? Do you think many kids would be interested? I would really love to hear your thoughts, as you are the ones teaching French to the kids every day!

The pictures here were taken on July 15, 2008 during the visit to the American cemetery of Henri-Chappelle, just outside of Liege.

Madame,

Merci mille fois.
